I'm learning quite a bit about bees... and looking at my yard in a different way. Did you know bees (the wild ones), can nest in the ground, dense lawn, patches of moss, under a stone or under the basal leaves of a dandelion (or a hawkweed). I'm looking around my backyard and seeing a tonne of bee habitat!

I'm also learning that a lot of the bees out there, at least the female ones, are going it alone. They are gathering food to create pollen balls for the eggs that they lay in an egg casing, and then seal up to hatch later on their own.

It makes me wonder how we can make our yard more bee friendly. A lot of bees are only active for a few weeks, although some are active all summer (like the friendly bumble-bee).
