Story of Clutter

I'm reading another clutter book... yes... another one! This one is called "Take the U out of Clutter" and promises that it will be the last clutter book you ever need! The authors have a great insight... The reason some people have so much trouble dealing with their clutter is because of the stories associated with each piece... Or with the whole shebang...

Everything in our home has a story associated with it. What we feel when we look at it. What it reminds of us. What it means to us. There are facts associated with the thing too... but we don't just see the facts... we see the story instead. And it's the story that we are attached to... The authors say that if we can handle the story... then the clutter will release itself... as we release the story...

Kind of cool!!! And so very true!! I look at stuff in other people's houses and it's obvious to me that it could go out the door to the second-hand store. But then, I don't have any story or emotions invested in the thing... It's their story and their feelings and their stuff...

The kicker is that... sometimes these things remind us of unhappy times in our lives... or of disempowering things... or of failed relationships or business ventures... And we still hang onto them... But if we can recognize the disempowering story attached to them... well... they could go out the door!
