Belief-o-matic

I was looking for the readings of the day yesterday... the Catholic readings, the Koran readings... something to feed the writing well. I eventually landed on a website called Beliefnet.com. They have all sorts of things... Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Taoism... You name it, they have it.

One little thing caught my eye - a quiz called Belief-o-matic. Twenty questions that will tell you what faith category you fall under... Hmmm... too irresistible for me! The disclaimer is kind of cute too: "Belief-O-Matic™ assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul." Alright, I've been warned!!

So... off we go...

Step 1 - fill in your name and email address - so they can send you stuff... sigh. (Faith - Skeptic!)
Step 2 - here we go...

Question 1 - number and nature of God/gods... (No, you can't look at my answers!)
Question 2 - incarnations of God (number, type, etc.)... hmmm...
Question 3 - origin(s) of the universe... good one...

and on it goes... questions on how one achieves salvation, questions on personal beliefs about morals, etc.

The end result... (drum roll please....)... how many answers jive with various religions...

Unitarian Universalism - 100%
...
Liberal Quaker - 99%
...
Mahayana Buddhism - 91%
...
Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestant - 80%
...
Roman Catholic - 21%

And a bunch of other faiths in between at various scores. Well, go figure. Of course the thing with Unitarian Universalists is that they have "diverse" beliefs, so I think pretty much anyone might fit into that category. The Liberal Quakers is interesting... Buddhism makes sense... The Roman Catholic score is not surprising. I've know for a while that the Catholic Church and I are on different trails. Doesn't mean that they are on the wrong trail... nor that I am. We are just taking different paths to the summit. I want to see the sights this way... and they have a different path. Peace to them. Peace to me.

What does all of this tell me?? Well, that I am not alone... and that there are others who share similar values and beliefs. Which is comforting. So if/when I find the need to seek a spiritual home, I know that there quite a few options out there!
